Weekly Letter

Dear Friends and Family, this was a week of being taught and spiritually fed by two General Authorities.  On Monday afternoon we headed out to the Charleston, West Virginia area for a Tri-Zone Conference to be held Tuesday morning.  It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive and the conference started at 9:30 so we drove down on Monday so we didn't have to drive seven hours in one day. We would have had to leave about 5:30 am and that didn't sound good to either of us. Our main speaker was Elder W. Mark Bassett who is a General Authority Seventy and his wife.  Elder Bassett was entertaining, relatable, spiritual, knowledgeable, and he spoke for about an hour and a half in the morning session and another hour in the afternoon session with no notes, other than his scriptures.  His wife would get up and interrupt his talk when she wanted to add something she felt was important.  They were a cute couple. His message was, of course, directed to the young missionaries.  He ur...

Weekly Letter

Another week come and gone, and this week isn't much different than last week.  We are about to the point where most of the people we haven't met yet don't want to meet us.  We still look for a few here and there but it's hard to find people home or willing to open the door. We are still making our birthday contacts and people find it hard to say no to a birthday card and a candy bar. Monday is P-Day but the weather isn't good enough to go sight-seeing yet. The weather hasn't been bad, just a little chilly and rainy. Monday evening we went to the Flanagan's for Family Home Evening.  We look forward to that each week because that is where are friends are.  There is  a core group of us that make it almost every week and some that just come once in a while. We enjoy the lessons and visiting with our friends and we usually have some pretty good treats.  We had another good week with the Institute students.  We are getting to know them by name and enjoy vis...

Weekly Letter

Another good week of blessings and missionary work.  We hope this letter finds all of you well and happy.  We put on our chef hats this week.  On Tuesday we fed the kids at the Institute.  This week was haystacks. We suppose everybody knows what that is.  The kids really enjoyed it and there was plenty to go around with plenty of leftovers for later.  One of the girls had a birthday that day so there were cupcakes and pie for dessert. On the way home the roads got a little iffy. So iffy in fact that the freeway was shut down for a while.  We were stopped on the freeway for about half an hour. When we got started again, the freeway going the other way was still shut down completely.  As we got going we found the causes of the closure. A semi truck that was going the other way must of hit some ice because it went across the lanes on the other side and across our lanes and off the road and ran into the embankment on our side of the road.  Anothe...
