Weekly Letter 9-18-22

This was our last week at the MTC.  It was a great week of learning and especially feeling the spirit of missionary week.  This is a special place where the love the Savior is very evident. We have had the opportunity to be with special people the last couple of weeks. We have learned together, laughed together, cried together and strengthen our testimonies together.

We had a good Sunday.  We met together for our Sunday meetings.  It is a neat experience to meet with a bunch of senior missionaries who are there for the same reasons and same goals. There is a special bond among us.  After church se took our last visit to Joy and her family and hold June before we take off.

We started our MLS (Member Leader Support) training this week. We were taught by a returned MLS missionary couple who served in Australia. They were able to give us a little more practical training on some of the things we will probably be doing in our own mission. It was great to have such food teachers and share testimonies of the other couples also training with us.

Elder and Sister Teixeira, from the President of the Seventy, came and spoke at the Tuesday night devotional.  Elder Teixeira talked a lot about verses in the Doctrine and Covenants 128  "What do we hear? Glad tidings from Cumorah! ... Shall we not go on in so great a cause? Go forward and not backward. Courage and on, on to victory, Let your hearts rejoice and be exceedingly glad. They were both so wonderful and spoke of the joy that the gospel brings to our lives…and much more.

We had the opportunity to interview Darcy and ask her about her feeling and experience as a Young Adult.  It was great to talk to her and get an idea of the things she is going through as a young adult.

Wednesday we were able to teach a lesson to a young adult.  We don't know if she was LDS or not, but taught her as if she wasn't.  We had a little background material about her history and what she wanted to know.  From that we prepared a lesson from information in Preach My Gospel.  It was a great experience that gave us an idea of what we might do on our mission.

On Thursday we had to set up a zoom meeting to teach someone (Joe and Necia and girls) something we were taught this past week. The hard part was setting up the zoom invitation and link.  With a little help from out teacher (Sister Hope), we were able to get it done.  They stressed using social media (mostly Facebook and some Zoom).  That is a real challenge for us old folk.  Mom and I have a joint Facebook account so I told Sister Hope that since Mom already uses Facebook she would be responsible for that.  Little did I know that this will be like the blind leading the blind.

Friday we finished with the MLS training from the same couple.  We both found this very helpful.

Saturday we headed out early for the first leg of out journey to Oakland, Maryland.  We drove to Cheyenne and stayed the night. We left early to travel to Creston to spend some time with the Capson family.  It's fun to  be with them.

We had a special couple of weeks in the MTC, but we are excited to get to our mission and go to work.

Love, Mom and Dad
