Weekly Letter

The snow and cold, mostly cold, you have been having in Utah and Idaho has caught up to us. We had a sleet storm come through on Tuesday which made the roads a little hazardous.  We got a few things done early and then hunkered down in our apartment for the rest of the day. We had snow off and on Thursday and Friday and then it turned cold. The cold here is humid so it seems colder that what we are used to.  The good news is that it is supposed to warm up and be nice through Thanksgiving.

Friday we traveled to Masontown, about and hour west of us, for our District Counsel meeting.  I think we have mentioned before how much we enjoy our meetings with the elders.  The elders in Masontown are both from Utah. Elder Jensen is from Richfield and Elder Turner is from Layton.  Elder Turner is a greenie and we can tell he is going to be a good missionary.  Those two elders had a baptism last Saturday which was exciting.  The baptisms in this district are few and far between.  It seems the work in Masontown is going a little better than the work here in Oakland.  As we mentioned last week, the elders that were transferred here were trying to determine if there is enough work to keep this area open.  They have been keeping in touch with the Mission President and it looks like they are going to close it.  We have a zone conference on Tuesday and should know one way of the other.  Either way it looks like we will probably stay here.  Our job isn't to proselyte but to strengthen the branch.

On our way back from our counsel meeting we stopped at the Friendsville museum and genealogy library to help our friend Ina Hicks. She is so grateful that we come and help her and we are getting close to the end of this project. We think we will probably get this project finished in the next week or two and then me done for the winter. We said that a couple of weeks ago, but it looks like we will be there a little longer that we thought.  As we mentioned earlier, Ina is a Quaker.  She was excited that I found out that I have Quaker ancestors in my family on my Grandma Cooper's line.

Friday was a busy day. As soon as we were finished in Friendsville we traveled to a restaurant in Oakland.  The kids gave Mom a gift certificate to a really nice seafood restaurant right on the lake.  It was delicious!! We haven't eaten that well in years.  Thanks kids.

It's Mom's turn for the scripture this week.  Doctrine and Covenants 50:24 - "That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day."  Mom likes it because it's a feel-good scripture.

We hope things are going well for all of you.  We think of you often and pray for you daily.
