Weekly Letter
Dear Friends and Family,
We hope this letter finds you all well and happy. It seems we are getting into a routine. Monday is our P-day. We clean the house and wash clothes and then our weekly trip to Wal-Mart. We treat ourselves to a delicious lunch (Taco Bell or Burger King). There isn't much variety in fast food around here and we are too cheap to go to a good restaurant. We'll visit some of the local sites when it warms up again. Pretty boring, huh.
Tuesday is one of the days we schedule for visiting people in their homes either for a birthday card or just to visit. We drove down to see a lady in the branch who was going into surgery the next day to repair a broken shoulder. It's about 1/2 hour drive to her place. She owns a bakery that is attached to her house. She's the one that provided the food for our branch Christmas dinner. Her 94-year old mother (she has dementia) was headed out the door to feed a bunch of feral cats. Norma got her mother back in the house and went out to feed them. She stubbed her toe against the food dish that was frozen to the ground and went down on the front porch. She broke the shoulder right out of the socket. She showed us a picture and it looked awful. She is going to be out of commission for a few weeks. We offered to come and help, but she has family and a part-time employee that will take care of things. It was a really good visit and we found out a lot about her. Her husband died just about this time three years ago. She still misses him a lot.
We have decided to have Wednesday be our family history day. We write in our journals, do some genealogy work, look for temple work to do, post things in the memories section in Family Tree and other things. We decided that since we aren't that busy we would put our extra time into something useful.
Thursday is still our hospital day. We're still enjoying our interaction with the people and Mom enjoys giving Tootsie Pops to the kids when they come in. And she still loves those lunches. She stocks up her tray, eats about 1/4 of it and takes the rest home. It's like we're starving and we don't have any food at home.
Friday is District Council meeting in Morgantown. We really enjoy our interaction with the young missionaries. They are such good kids and seem to know the gospel as well as we do. They are really good to us. They also like our treats we take every week. One of the Sisters said they are anxious to see what we bring each week. This week was Scotcheroos and they were a hit. The seminary secretary is from Utah and said every Sunday her grandma would have the families over for Scotcheroos. When her grandma died, her mother started making them, but she hadn't had one since she moved to Morgantown.
After District Council we headed over to Sam's Club for a few groceries. As we checked out we noticed six of the Elders that we had just been with were there for lunch, so we joined them. Nothing like a big hot dog and a drink for $1.38! Friday evening we had a couple of Elders at our place for dinner. One is our Elder from Rigby, Elder Hooper and the other one, Elder Denning, is from South Jordan. It was fun to have them here and we realized that to them it was like having dinner with their grandparents.
Mom got a new calling in the branch today. She was called to be the Young Women's President. We have four young women in the branch. Two are inactive and the other two are brand new 11-year olds. This could be a challenge, but she's excited to do it!?
It seems like we are just rambling, but that's all we have. Like I said, we have a bit of a routine and things won't change too much from week to week.
My scripture today is a quote from President Ballard. "In our day, Satan is working overtime to shut out the Savior's light. But you can never be in a place so dark that the light of Jesus Christ cannot shine for you if you will come unto Him. His light is always there." No matter where we are in life, no matter what we do, the light of Jesus Christ is there for us. Don't ever give up, don't ever despair. Look for the light of Christ to help you in whatever circumstance you may be in.
We love you and pray for you daily.
Love,
Mom and Dad
Grandma and Grandad
Jamee and Kerry
Sister and Elder Cooper
