Weekly Letter

Dear Family and Friends,

Another week come and gone.  This was a pretty busy week. It started with our Family Home Evening group on Monday.  We reviewed General Conference talks and discussed them.  It's interesting how different talks affect different people. The same talk can touch our hearts differently, as needed.  We had a very good discussion.

Tuesday we were on the road early on the way to Clarksburg for our zone conference.  The last two conferences have been tri-zone conferences where half the mission goes on one day and the other half goes on another.  We also had to travel to the mission home which is about 3 1/2 hours away.  Clarksburg is only about 1 1/2 hours away.  We had great messages by Sis. and Pres. Lyndahl.  The zone leaders and sister zone leaders taught us during break-away meetings.  Our new mission nurse gave us some wise counsel on how to stay more healthy (directed mostly to the young elders).  Sis. and Pres. Lyndahl gave closing remarks, fed us and sent us on our way.  We really enjoy being around the young missionaries but it's nice to visit with the other senior couples in our zone.  We kind of compare what's going on in our areas and see if there is something working in one area that we could try in our area.  The couple we have been around the longest are Elder and Sister Hepworth from Star Valley, Wyoming.

On our way home from zone conference we stopped in Morgantown the feed the Young Single Adults.  This week it was hot dogs, chips, salad and ice cream.  It was a small turnout but the ones that came really liked it.  We never know from one week to the next if we are going to have ten students or 20 students.  It's hard to plan food quantities, but that's okay.

On Wednesday we headed out to the Washington D.C. area to go the temple.  We have a couple in our branch that have a house in Potomac, just a short distance to the temple.  They invited us to stay with them overnight on Wednesday.  They are temple ordinance workers that travel from Oakland to the temple every Wednesday.  We did an endowment session with them on Wednesday and did initiatory work on Thursday morning.  It was a blessing  to have family names to take to the temple. After our temple work was done we headed back home with a stop at the Penn Alps Restaurant. We had a nice meal and a nice ride home.

Friday we didn't have much to do  because we schedule things around out District Council meetings on Friday morning and that was cancelled because of zone conference.  We got an invitation to go to dinner with our friends the Flanagans.  It was a good dinner with good friends.

Saturday we drove all over the county delivering birthday cards and candy bars.  Not many people at home, but had a couple of good visits with inactive branch members.  Saturday evening, the Zimmermans invited us to go to a movie with them.  There is a movie out about Abraham and Isaac called His Only Son.  It was produced by the same people that do The Chosen. The message was good, but we didn't like the movie that much. After the movie the Zimmermans took us out to dinner.  These are the same people that we went to the temple with.  We have some good friends here.

We had a good Easter.  Our Sacrament Meeting was really good.  We had a lot of visitors today, the chapel was nearly full.  After church we sent to a local nursing home and visited with an inactive member who is recovering from having her leg amputated.  She had a birthday recently so we took her a card and candy bar.  She was happy to see us even though I don't think she remembered us.  When we got home we watched a few episodes of The Chosen and had a nice dinner.  I am now preparing to teach the FHE lesson tomorrow.

Mom's scripture today is one well-known to Book of Mormon readers. It is found in Mosiah 2:17. "And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."  We tried to do a lot of service this week and when we serve those around us it gives us a good feeling and it draws us closer to God.

Have a great week.  We love you and pray for you daily.

Love,
