Weekly Letter

Dear Family and Friends.

We had our FHE last Monday and our new convert, Alex, taught the lesson on Adam and Eve and the Fall.  He did a great job in spite of some of the far out comments and theories some of the older men had.  We have a couple of brothers that like to go off on tangents at times.  I have come up with a signal that we need to reel it in a bit.  I go through the motion of a casting a fishing line and reeling in the discussion.  They usually get the idea.

Tuesday we cooked dinner for the Young Single Adults again after a short break.  We saw a recipe for a Mexican Cornbread Casserole online and decided to try it out on the students. It turned out okay.  The kids seemed to like it and ate one pan full and a little of the second pan. We had watermelon and cantaloupe and ice cream for dessert. Over all it was a pretty good meal. We only have two meals left to prepare because they are having an off-site activity in a couple of weeks. Our Institute director got some huge ribs from the food bank so that should be a great meal this week. They have asked us to help them with the food at a training meeting for the Seminary and Institute teachers and leaders in a town called Parkersburg about three hours away.  The good news is there is another missionary couple coming in September to serve at the Institute.

We are having a Pioneer Day picnic at the lake this coming Saturday.  We have been delivering invitations to our inactive friends.  We don't think anyone will respond to the invitations, but you never know.  Our recently activated friend Morgan came to a Christmas party before he came to church because he responded to an invitation. We have also delivered some birthday cards and candy bars.

Wednesday we found out that one of our Sister Missionaries, Sister Arnold, was being transferred. It surprised us because she had only been here one transfer and Sister Schurger had been here about two transfers.  We heard that our district had a lot of changes.  We are anxious to get to our District Council meeting on Friday to meet the new missionaries.

Thursday was busy. We did our volunteer work at the hospital in the morning and had a lunch appointment with our Branch President and his wife. We went to the Penn-Alps Restaurant in a little town called Grantsville, about 30 minutes away.  They have a great Rueben sandwich! We had another couple that have been trying to get us to their place for dinner.  They invited us to come on Wednesday but something came up and they changed it to Thursday.  We couldn't say no so we had two member meals in one day!

Friday we went over to Morgantown to pick up the ribs and we ended up going to a Chinese Buffet for lunch with them.  This was one of the best Chinese Buffets we've had. We had a great visit with Bro. Fuhriman and Sis. Hart. We will miss them when we come home.

Saturday we invited our Sister missionaries to join us at the Flanagans for pizza.  We met our new missionary, Sister Whitely.  She is from Provo, in the Grandview area.  She seems like a sweet young lady.  She and Sis. Schurger came out on their mission at the same time. After dinner we went to Bro. Galloway's home for our Missionary Correlation meeting.  We sat on his deck and watched the deer wander around his back yard. The weather was perfect and it made for a beautiful evening.

Mom's scripture is found in Mosiah 2:41. "And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both and temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they might dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness. O remember, remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoken it." This is why we do what we do so we can be happy.

That's all for now.  We love you and pray for you daily.

Love,
Mom and Dad
